Karel PAUKERT (1935)
se narodil ve Skutči. Studoval hru na varhany na Pražské konzervatoři u B. Krajse a na Královské konzervatoři v Gentu u G. Verschraegena. Po odchodu z Čech byl v roce 1961-62 prvním hobojistou Islandského národního orchestru v Reykjaviku . Poté žil dva roky v Belgii, kde zastupoval prof. Verschraegena v katedrále St. Bavon v Gentu a byl jeho asistentem na konzervatoři. Poté emigroval do USA (1964), kde se v roce 1972 stal americkým státním občanem. Vyučoval nejdříve na Washington University v St. Louisu, od roku 1968 do 1974 byl profesorem varhanní hry na Northwestern v Evanstonu (Chicago), v roce 1974 přijal místo ředitele hudební sekce Clevelandskeho muzea (do prosince 2004) a od roku 1976 také vyučoval na Hudebním institutu v Clevelandu. Od roku 1979 je varhaníkem kostela sv. Pavla tamtéž. Vyvíjí rozsáhlou koncertní činnost, často se vrací do Evropy. Jeho umění je vysoce ceněno pro programovou koncepci a spontánnost. Jeho koncerty byly vysílány rozhlasovými stanicemi v Praze, Oslu, Tokiu a v Mnichově. Nahrává pro společnost Azica. Zasloužil se v Americe o propagaci české barokní a klasické světské a chrámové hudby a soudobých českých skladatelů. Byl vyznamenán uznáním Americké společnosti skladatelů a nakladatelů za propagaci soudobé hudby (ASCAP), za celoživotní přínos v oblasti hudby dostal cenu od časopisu Northern Ohio Live a uznání ”Významný občan” University Heights v Ohiu. Hudební institut v Clevelandu mu udělil titul Doctor Honoris causa.
Born in 1935 in Skuteč, Mr. Karel PAUKERT studied organ at the Prague Conservatoire under B. Krajs and at the Royal Conservatoire in Ghent, Belgium under G. Verschraegen. After leaving his native country, he was a principal oboist with the Radio National Symphony Orchestra in Reykjavik in 1961-62. Living in Belgium for two years, he was a deputy organist for Prof. Verschraegem at St. Bavon Cathedral in Ghent and was his assistant at the Conservatoire. In 1964 he immigrated to the United States and became U.S. citizen in 1972. Mr. Paukert taught at Washington University in St. Louis first and at Northwestern University in Evanston between 1968 and 1974. In 1974 he became a director of performing art series of the Cleveland Museum of Art and retired there in December 2004. Since 1976 he has taught at the Cleveland Institute of Music. He serves as an organist and choirmaster of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Cleveland Heights, a position he has held since 1979. He has performed at many world’s leading venues, very often coming back to Europe. His performances have been acclaimed internationally for their programme conception and excitement. His concerts have been radio broadcasted in Prague, Oslo, Tokyo and Munich. His most recent recordings are available on Azica label. In America he often plays Czech Baroque and Classical secular and sacred music and contemporary Czech composers. The awards he has received recently include awards for programming new music from The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), a lifetime achievement award from the publishers of the magazine Northern Ohio Live, and a Distinguished Citizen Award from the University Heights, Ohio. In 2003, the Cleveland Institute of Music awarded him honorary Doctor Honoris causa.
